South Holland District Council refuse truck reverses into Spalding Cemetery wall

A council bin lorry has damaged a wall at Spalding Cemetery.

South Holland District Council has confirmed that one of its refuse trucks hit the wall at Pinchbeck Road graveyard earlier this week.

The truck hit the wall while reversing due to the closure of Park Road.

Members of the public are being asked to keep away from the area until it has been checked by officials - who will also be assessing nearby graves.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We can confirm that a council refuse truck backed into the wall outside Spalding Cemetery earlier this week, and the area has been cordoned off appropriately whilst the rubble is cleared.

“The vehicle was reversing due to a road closure opposite the wall.

“The damage caused appears to be minimal and once the debris is removed, we will assess nearby graves, the wall and surroundings for any lasting impact.

“We would ask people to please keep away from the wall until these checks have been carried out.”

- Rubbish left outside approximately 200 homes in Gosberton and Quadring were not collected by the district council today (Thursday, May 24).

Officials say this will be taking place tomorrow and are asking residents to leave the bin bags outside their properties.
