Spalding Flower Parade organiser Stephen Timewell introduces new attractions to the 2024 event
The biggest event in the history of Spalding Flower Parade is being promised by the organiser – with the full line-up for May now confirmed.
Stephen Timewell is adding new attractions to this year’s event – including an illuminated float display in the evening – to entertain the thousands of people who are expected to descend on Spalding on May 11 and 12.
Mr Timewell revived the parade in 2023 – ten years after it was last held and is currently undergoing a search to find the Spalding Flower Queen for 2024.
This year’s parade will follow the theme of movies – with 60 business, schools and community groups signed up to take part.
Mr Timewell said: “Since the parade started in the 50s, there has never been a parade like it, this is certainly the biggest parade in Spalding’s history.
“The only thing I can’t guarantee is the weather – however I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
“There are over 500 people in the parade, all in costumes based on this year’s theme of movie titles.”
Home Alone, Love Actually, How to Train Your Dragon along with The Sound of Music and Dumbo are some of themes of this year’s floats.
This year will differ with an evening illuminated display on the Castle Sports ground, followed by the floats on display on Sunday.
The weekend will also include 60 craft and charity stalls, family activities and entertainment.
Mr Timewell added: “I genuinely want to keep Spalding on the map.
“These community events are vital to the economy in the town and of course, preserving the heritage that we were once so proud of.”
“We already have 28 coaches booked in from as far away as Devon, Cornwall and Newcastle.
“It’s time to show what Spalding can do.”
The parade route will start at 11am at the Castle Sports Ground on Pinchbeck Road
