Hopes for Spalding Celebrate the River Day to be annual event
The people behind a new River Welland event are hoping that it will become an annual fixture for the town.
Spalding councillor James Le Sage and Welland Yacht Club are hoping people across the area will get involved with the Celebrate the River day which will be taking place on Sunday, June 8.
A flotilla of vessels, including canoes and paddleboards, will be setting off from yacht club and make its way up to the Moorings Pub in an event which is hoped to showcase one of the town’s biggest assets.
Outside entertainment is also being planned at the yacht club.
A call for councillors to put on wetsuits and get involved was made during the last Spalding Town Forum meeting by Coun Le Sage.
The Spalding St John’s ward member said: “It coincides with the yacht club’s open day and we would like it to become an annual event as the river is the jewel in our crown and we should use it.”
He was responding to a question from Coun Gary Taylor who asked if there plans for the event to continue.
Coun Taylor said: “I do wish it well as Spalding is known for having the river run through the centre of town. It is an asset we need to make more of.”
He also highlighted that the water taxi will be returning on April 5.
