‘I saw a gap in the market and I’m hoping to make a change!’ New Caribbean eaterie serving up traditional favourites in Spalding
A new takeaway is bringing a taste of the Caribbean to the area.
After spotting a gap in the market, Jasmin Orr and husband Wellington have decided to set up shop on Spalding’s Station Street.
Jazzy Caribbean Takeaway recently opened in the former Dolce Sosta Italian delicacies spot, and is already proving a hit with customers.
“I was introduced to Spalding by a cousin of mine and I came in and saw the potential, and saw that it was lacking a bit for Caribbean dishes,” Jasmin said.
“So I decided to take on the adventure of bringing that to Spalding.
“Walking around the place I saw this property was available and it’s been going really well.
“The customers have been happy and I’m hoping to make a change to Spalding.”
Jasmin has a long background in catering but this is her first venture as business owner.
“Cooking has always been a big part of my life and I really enjoy it,” she said.
“Business has been going great and I look forward to seeing it blossom into a really big adventure.
“People from different ethnicities have been coming in off the street to try the food, which is great.”
Much-loved Jamiacan food such as jerk chicken and rice and peas are on the menu, along with the national dish of ackee and saltfish.
Other highlights include spicy curry mutton, oxtail, red pea soup and fried dumplings, as well as tasty patties with a choice of fillings.
“The traditional favourites are very much on the menu,” Jasmin added.
Jazzy Caribbean Takeaway is open from noon to 8pm, Monday to Saturday.
The business will be set up for online delivery services within the next few days, while large pick-uporders can be placed by calling 07427 276 808.
