Marco’s Ice Cream and Coffee Bar in Spalding receive a warm welcome from customers as it returns for a new season
A passionate business owner has received a warm welcome from customers as she gets ready to whip up tasty treats for the new season.
Marco’s Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Bar, in Red Lion Street, Spalding, has returned after closing for the winter months.
The ice-cream shop has been a firm favourite for many people in the town for years – with customers already expressing their excitement for its return on a social media post.
Owner of the independent business, Elaine Robinson, took over from Mario Fragale in 2002 and has been serving up a host of goods ever since - even though, ironically, she admits that she isn’t a ‘huge ice cream eater’ herself!
She said: “The business used to be called Domenics Fine Ices and started back in 1989. The previous owner, Mario, had worked there for 13 years.

“I used to bring my own children here when they were younger, so it’s so nice to say we are still here and thriving thanks to our regular customers. It’s all quite exciting.
“It’s a nice little business to run and I thoroughly enjoy it and have done for all of those years – it’s the best move I made and it’s so lovely to read all of the positive comments we have received as well.”
The ice-cream shop sells a selection of Mr Whippy flavours – with some of the main ones including, strawberry, chocolate, maraschino cherry, lemon, lime, banana, blackcurrant, vanilla, orange and raspberry. There are also Shmoo milkshakes, Jackalope Joe Coffee and a range of hot and cold drinks available.
Currently, Elaine is the only member of staff manning the fort at the business. She added: “Some days it can be crazy as I am the only one here. It can get quite full on when we’re really busy but I love it and do really enjoy being here.
“It is a passion and I think that comes across to the customers when they get to see the same person every time they visit. I think it’s quite nice to be acknowledged and recognised when you do go into a shop.
“We also invested in a new Whippy ice cream machine last year. It’s all sparkly and ready to be used, so hopefully the Easter weekend will give us a boost. I want to see the business continue for another 35 years, whether that’s through children or grandchildren taking it over one day.”
Opening hours for Marco’s are weather dependant, but generally the store is open every day of the week between 10am – 5pm.
