‘It should be a simple straightforward thing!’ Quadring’s uncollected dog poo bins are overflowing
Villagers are still dealing with the ‘aggravating’ sight of overspilling dog poo bins.
Quadring residents first kicked up a stink about a number of missed collections of waste in April, but it appears the problem continues to linger.
“We seem to have a period where everything works as it should - all the bins are emptied, everything is good, everything is happy,” said parish councillor Andrew Jackson.
“Then all of a sudden we seem to get every bin missed. Bit of human error, the odd bin missed every now and then you can get away with.
“But when every bin pretty much has been missed for dog collection in Quadring it starts to cause a bit of an issue.
“The fact the bins are overflowing shows that people are collecting the majority of the mess and the parish council keeps putting out more new bins to aid this.
“But the issue is the frequency of emptying.”
The waste left in bins by dog walkers should be collected weekly, but to make issues more confusing for Quadring residents, some dog poo bins are being collected more regularly and others more sporadically.
“We have got a couple of bins that are being emptied a couple of times a week - which is brilliant news for us - by one of the small vans that goes around emptying bins in the parks,” Mr Jackson added.
“The other bins, we seem to be having issues again.
“It’s aggravating more than anything. It should be a simple straightforward thing; there is a bin it needs emptying.
“It should be fairly straightforward but there appears to be a bit of an issue somewhere.”
A spokesperson for South Holland District Council, said: “As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our community as clean and tidy as possible, we are currently reviewing the locations of litter and dog bins to ensure they are all included in our collection schedules.
“If you find a bin that is full, please report it through our website at www.sholland.gov.uk/reportit, and please take any dog waste home, where it can be disposed of in your black sack collection.”
SHDC has been running a consultation on whether to introduce new rules which could see dog owners fined £100 for not picking up after their pets.
The proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) could also see fixed penalty notices issues for owners who do not carry a dog poo bag and it could also prevent dogs from going into enclosed play areas.
The consultation closed on October 8 with councillors due to make a decision in the coming weeks.
