Disgusting smell and rats spotted in Spalding town centre passageway due to piles of rubbish
A town centre passageway is being marred by a disgusting smell and rats due to piles of rubbish.
People walking down Abbey Path in Spalding are having to dodge the detritus from the ripped up black bin bags which are heaped up on the Gore Lane car park along with worn tyres and other dumped mess.
South Holland District Council says that Gore Lane is a designated collection point for the refuse of a number of nearby properties but says it is monitored.
A resident from Abbey Path has emailed this website to highlight the issues posed by the piles of waste.
The email stated: “The trash hasn't been taken out for months. It stinks and there are rats.”
Putting out bin bags days ahead of the collections is an issue which the district council is regularly raising due to the problems this creates with rubbish in the area.
A council spokesman said: “This location serves as a designated waste collection point for nearby flats. While it is regularly monitored by our Enforcement Officers and Waste Services Team, being a public car park means we cannot fully control how waste is disposed of or the actions of individuals using the area.
“We would like to remind residents of our early presentation policy. Waste bags and containers should be placed out no earlier than 6pm the evening before collection, and no later than the time specified on the day of collection.”
Concerns have been raised recently about a similar issue in Juniper Crescent where a resident complained that the piles of rubbish were putting off potential home owners.
The council also received reports of a sofa dumped at the Monkshouse Playing Field in Spalding.
Kingdom had been brought in by the district council in 2023 to help tackle enviro-crimes such as fly-tipping by dishing out fixed penalty notices.
