New history group covering Whaplode, Moulton, Moulton Chapel, Holbeach St John’s, Saracen’s Head, Whaplode St Catherine and Moulton Seas End enjoys good turnout at first meeting




A healthy crowd turned out for the inaugural meeting of a history group with big plans.

The Elloe Stone Villages Heritage Group has now laid out its future plans, including gatherings every two months, the creation of a new Facebook page to encourage feedback and interaction and to produce a book to capture people’s historic recollections.

The group – which covers areas including Whaplode, Moulton, Moulton Chapel, Holbeach St John’s, Saracen’s Head, Whaplode St Catherine and Moulton Seas End – will also host regular guest speakers to cover topical subjects of interest.

it hoped that this will be a mix of outside historians and also locals with their own recollections of the area's own Heritage, covering subjects such as churches, mills, village histories and more.

A crowd of 36 attended the group’s first meeting on Saturday, February 17 at Whaplode Village Hall.

A selection of board displays showing heritage articles about the villages and their churches, together with a few photographs of historic buildings present and lost were could be viewed, along with a longer video presentation of a collection of old photographs around the villages.

The next meeting will be held on Saturday, April 26, at Whaplode Village Hall between 4pm and 6pm.
