New safety measures on A16 between Peterborough and Crowland welcomed by concerned Lincolnshire county councillor
Plans to install a new safety measure on a dangerous stretch of the busy A16 have been welcomed.
People living in the Crowland area want to see improvements taken on the A16 between Peterborough and the town in order to prevent more accidents after two people were killed near Newborough.
Now Peterborough City Council has confirmed that it is adding a double white system along two sections of the A16, near Newborough and Dogsthorpe, in order to improve safety along the road.
Former firefighter and Lincolnshire county councillor Nigel Pepper has welcomed the news of the new measure.
He said: “Continuing my quest for safety improvements on the A16 between Spalding and Peterborough, I have been having a dialogue with the Peterborough MP’s office regarding concerns over the amount of serious road traffic collisions in the stretch between the A47 (Dogsthorpe) and B1443 (Newborough) junctions and I have received a reply informing that following site meetings with the Highways department and the police that the installation of a double white line system is being looked into which is welcomed.
“Further after receiving dozens of complaints about the potholes and vehicles having to swerve to avoid them in the Lincolnshire section between Spalding and Crowland, re-surfacing of the road this year is also welcomed.”
A city council spokesman said: "We will be installing a double white line system along two sections of the A16 between the A47 and B1443.
"This is a safety measure to reinforce that cars should not be overtaking in this area. We are now planning in a date to start these works and will communicate this to the public when it's decided."
