Police promise ‘significant penalties’ as they launch crackdown on town centre drinking in Spalding and South Holland
Police have launched a crackdown on town centre drinking and drug use.
Anti-social behaviour has been an ongoing issue raised by businesses and shoppers in Spalding, a discussion exacerbated by the ongoing revamp on the Hall Place benches - dubbed the ‘Circle of Doom’ - which has been known to attract day drinkers.
Over the weekend South Holland Police’s team have been making themselves visible in the town and across the district - pledging ‘significant penalties’ to those ignoring the law.
“Yesterday (Saturday, November 16) PCSO Davy and PCSO Holland were in Hall Place, Spalding engaging with our communities, taking surrendered alcohol from those drinking within the PSPO (Public Spaces Protection Order) area and speaking to local businesses,” a police statement said.
“We are working with South Holland District Council to ensure serial perpetrators of street drinking have significant penalties/fines or community protection notices.
“This is part of our quarterly priority to tackle ASB (anti-social behaviour) within central Spalding.”
Police added that this weekend’s patrols also led to the sighting of a suspicious vehicle on Pinchbech Road, with a drink driver arrested and charged.
Foot patrols were alos carried out in Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge, leading to two drugs searches in the Sheep Market in Spalding.
