Readers share pictures of The Flying Scotsman passing through Spalding
A legendary locomotive brought out crowds of people to watch as it steamed its way through the area.
The Flying Scotsman - which is officially the first locomotive to reach 100mph and circumnavigate the globe - passed its way through Quadring, Gosberton Risegate, Pinchbeck, Spalding and the Deepings on Wednesday afternoon.
The 102-year-old train, which went into service on February 24 1923, thundered along the Lincoln to Peterborough line as it made its way to Nene Valley Railway at Orton Meres for an event over the weekend.
People of all ages gathered around the railway line for a rare spectacle of watching this famous engine - which was named after the daily 10am London to Edinburgh service - travel through the area. And here are a host of pictures sent in by readers.
Among those who were enjoyed this treat were Angie Fowler and her grandchildren, Eviee and Oscar Charlesworth, who sat by tracks in Spalding in a scene reminiscent of The Railway Children.
Spalding Railway Station was also the perfect venue for a number of enthusiasts and families who found the perfect spots on the footbridge over the tracks while others opted for the best views offered on the platforms.
Bourne man Mark Raven had brought along his family to watch as the locomative pass through the area.
He said: “We made a special effort to come as we are into steam anyway. The family are nuts about traction engines.”
One sweet moment saw the drivers of a modern train wave back to an excited youngster who was waiting for the Scotsman to arrive.
A short time later, a plume of smoke could be seen coming along the tracks and with a toot of the whistle from the driver, the engine passed through the station to the excitement of children and the young at heart.
