McDonald's staff take part in Love Where You Live campaign in support of Community Kind Spaces project

Staff from a town’s major fast food chain branched out by volunteering at a church’s gardening project.

Holly Shire, shift manager at McDonald’s in Spalding, and her team took part in the Love Where You Live Campaign, a scheme that encourages organisations to improve their environment.

With Vanessa Browning, founder of Community Mind Matters and Coun Ingrid Sheard, the group cleared the garden area in support of the Community Kind Spaces project.

The volunteers - Isaac, Julie, Cayden, Olivia and George, Kelsea - met at the church’s back garden to clear out branches and helped to level out the area section by section.

Vanessa, founder of Community Mind Matters, said: “Holly contacted me and asked if they could volunteer with the garden project.

“They spent three hours in the pouring rain raking and turning up areas in the garden.

“They filled a few bags and they want to continue and will be back to help us.”

The group hopes that eventually the garden can be used for community events.

Vanessa added: “We want to get the garden back to how it should be.

“It was an amazing day.

“Even though it was raining everyone was uplifting - their passion was amazing.”

The gang had tea and cakes to keep them going and Holly hopes to make it a monthly occurrence.
