Spalding Flower Parade fundraiser pulls put all the stops as iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car flies into town along with Diamondz School of Dance flash mob
Shoppers were treated to a ‘truly scrumptious’ sight as a head-turning flash mob were joined by an iconic vehicle to kick-start the countdown to Spalding Flower Parade.
The iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car is being used for fundraising for the May 11/12 event – and dancers from Diamondz School of Dance gave an impromptu performance in the town centre to accompany it.
Volunteers have adapted and modernised the car, which started life as a film prop, and people could make a donation to have a picture taken with it.
Flower parade organiser Steven Timewell said: “It was an amazing day out.
“I was delighted with the turnout.

“It was so nice to see the market place buzzing and the dance team did us proud.”
Funds raised from bucket collections on Saturday (March 23) totalled £154.94 and will be put towards the running costs of the people-funding flower parade in May.
The car spread its wings and flashed its lights at passers by as they enjoyed the sight – and had chance to meet Deputy Flower Queen Demi Fontaine Gilchrist.
Mr Timewell said: “The car actually drives thanks to four electric motors.
“It was working lights, wings and even an inflatable to float on water.
“It’s all computer controlled and is an amazing piece of work.
The dance troupe performed a flash mob dance at midday, including a routine of songs from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Crowds cheered as they performed Me Ol’ Bamboo and the musical box scene.
The car was purchased recently by the flower parade team after it appeared on stage in Norwich and it has taken eight weeks to get it up and running.
This is one of many fundraisers Mr Timewell has organised and he added: “The whole flower parade adventure is just one big adrenaline rush.”
This year’s parade takes place on May 11 and 12.
