Spalding bench improvements to start in October says South Holland District Council

Work to remove the ‘circle of doom’ from Spalding town centre is due to begin in the next couple of weeks.

South Holland District Council ran a consultation in October last year asking residents and shoppers on how they should improve the seating and planters in Hall Place, Red Lion Street and the riverside in Spalding.

As part of that move the circle seating area in Hall Place – which had been dubbed the ‘circle of death’ by councillor James Le Sage and is referred to as the ‘circle of doom’ by others – is going to be removed.

But nearly a year on from the consultation, work is finally due to start happening later in October, cabinet member Gary Taylor confirmed at Wednesday’s full council meeting.

While responding to a question from Coun James Le Sage, Coun Taylor stated that work will start after the pumpkin parade and that it will finish before Christmas festivities.

He said: “It will be a major enhancement.”
