Work to A16 Greencell roundabout at Pinchbeck is at half-way stage

Major improvements to a busy A16 roundabout have reached the half-way point, say highways bosses.

Lincolnshire County Council is increasing the size of the A16/B1180 Greencell roundabout at Pinchbeck in order to provide two wider lanes thanks to a £20million Levelling Up grant.

This project is part of a wider scheme which also sees improvements to the Springfields roundabout and Marsh Lane, Boston.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "We’ve officially passed the halfway point of our Pinchbeck Roundabout improvements.

"The team has spent over 14,000 hours working on the project since starting this spring, including widening the A16 to the northeast and southeast and completing the B1180 quadrant of the roundabout. In addition to that, we’ve also laid just under a quarter mile each of new kerbing and drainage so far.”

Work on this section of the project - which is estimated to cost £6.6million - started earlier this year and is set to finish in spring 2025.

An eight-week closure of the access road leading to the roundabout from the West Marsh Road area created a number of traffic problems in the Pinchbeck area.

So far nearly half a mile of new underground street lighting ducts have been installed and more than 25,000 tonnes of road building material used.

But Coun Davies has warned that there will be future closures of the road next year in order to complete the work.

He said: "The team has been working incredibly hard over the past five months, and we’re still on track for having this very important scheme wrapped up next spring.

“In the meantime, narrowed lanes are in place on the roundabout until the end of the works with a series of night-time closures planned for early next year so final surfacing can be laid. Details for these are still being finalised, but we will share more details closer to the time including dates, times and diversions.”
