Reaction from Spalding United manager Jimmy Dean after their victory over Lowestoft Town
Manager Jimmy Dean praised the response of his players after being forced to ask questions of his charges in their epic home win over Lowestoft Town on Tuesday night.
However, Spalding had found themselves two goals before the midway mark of the first half despite a promising start.
Dean said: "I thought we lacked urgency in the first half but we were still edging it for the first 20 minutes.
"It was another stupid mistake for their first goal and, although I don't mind technical ones, I will keep bringing ones like that up because we keep making them.
"They have to stop because they're putting too much pressure on us.
"We had actually defended well for the best part but we made two mistakes and it gave us a mountain to climb.
"They had a good 15-minute spell which forced us to change what we did so credit to them."
New signing Bart Cybulski cut the deficit just before the break with Spalding launching an onslaught onto their visitors in the second period.
Cybulski levelled the match with eight minutes remaining before Callum Chettle smashed home the winning goal from a free-kick.
Dean added: "We made a tactical change and were a little bit in the ascendancy for the last five minutes of the half and a bit of magic from Bart got our tails up.
"It gave me a chance to beat the players with a stick and we did ask some questions of them so real credit to the lads.
"It's two games in a row where we've probably had 70 percent of the match and, although we've made hard work of it, you can't question the character of the boys.
"We've had a run of five weeks with games on a Saturday and Tuesday and the boys looked tired mentally.
"I asked the question of them at half-time and, to be fair to the boys, they rammed it back down my throat and I apologised to them afterwards for asking it.
"It was an outstanding effort and the second half felt like an Alamo. It was wave after wave of attacks.
"We had four or five proper chances and you do worry it's not going to go for you because we didn't score them.
"The positives are there for everyone to see. The fans kept believing and you have to give them some credit as well because they're a noisy bunch who really got behind us."
The victory means Spalding only remain in the relegation zone on goal difference as they are tied on nine points with four other teams with Biggleswade and Hitchin both below the Tulips.
They are without a match this weekend with their next competitive clash being a home tie in the FA Trophy with league rivals Alvechurch on Saturday, October 5.
