Lincolnshire people among those on King’s new year honours list




Remarkable people from across the county join famous faces in the King’s new year honours list.

Nicola Van Der Drift, who lives in Bourne, is made an OBE for services to heritage. She is the chief executive officer of the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.

Philip Wynn, who is chairman of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and lives in Grantham, is also appointed an OBE for services to farming and to the environment.

Nicholas Leader, who lives in the county, receives an OBE for public service for his work as governor at Berwyn Prison in Wales.

Dr Leonard Lofts, who lives in Lincoln, is appointed an MBE for services to people with disabilities in Devon. He is patron and chief executive of Northam Care Trust.

Caroline Paige, who lives in Lincoln, is also made an MBE for services to Armed Forces personnel and veterans.

Julie Spencer, of Gainsborough, receives her MBE for services to education. She is the head of the student wellbeing service at the University of Lincoln.

Elsewhere, Paul Brackley, who lives in Oundle and helped start the Oundle Community First Responders, receives a British Empire Medal.

Christine Gatfield, who founded Dove Cottage Day Hospice which provides services in Rutland and Melton Mowbray to those who are terminally ill, also receives a British Empire Medal.

Among the famous people recognised are Dame Shirley Bassey who receives the highest award – an Order of the Companions of Honour, while Sir Ridley Scott is appointed a Knight Grand Cross – another of the highest ranks – for services to film.

Author Jilly Cooper is made a Dame as is Felicity Dahl, the widow of the author Roald who set up a children’s charity in his name. MP Sajid Javid is made a knight.

Christian Horner, of Team Red Bull, is appointed a CBE for services to motorsport, while baker Paul Hollywood and football Mary Earps are also appointed an OBE each.
