Drop in pothole reports to Lincolnshire County Council over winter

Pothole reports in the county are down by 40% after an ‘easier winter’.

Lincolnshire County Councillor responsible for highways, Richard Davies (Con), delivered the news at a Stamford Town Council meeting on Tuesday last week (March 25).

He said: “We have had an easier winter than we could have done.

“We’ve had 20,000 to 30,000 reports of potholes, in reality that’s down by about 40% of where we are sometimes at this point in the year.

“It’s quite a good place to be.”

With fewer pothole reports, the council is channeling more resources to tackle issues relating to drainage and flooding.

This has involved clearing drains and gullies of leaves, which can cause a blockage and result in surface water flooding.

The backlog is also down from 1,800 last year to 400 reports which need looking at, and the council has pinpointed which drains were previously being ignored.

Coun Davies said: “20% of what the county council looks after wasn’t on anybody’s radar.

“It’s a lot more maintenance which is very expensive.”

‘Infamous potholes’ in Stamford have been branded an accident waiting to happen - but no date has been set for repairs.
