Hannan’s Spicy Cuisine in Uppingham picks up praise in Leicestershire Curry Awards 2023

A restaurant owner has picked up new praise for the quality of his takeaway food.

Hannan’s Spicy Cuisine in Uppingham was finalist in the Leicestershire Curry Awards 2023, having been a runner up last year too.

Abdul Hannan established the business in Ayston Road, Uppingham, six years ago and his focus on five-star rated food hygiene and taste mean he is regularly picked out by restaurant trade judges.

In the Leicestershire Curry Awards, which also covers the Rutland area, Abdul was commended for his food and the excellent reviews his restaurant receives from customers.

Originally from Bangladesh, Abdul learned cooking skills from his mother and honed these while a student in the city of Sylhet.

“My brother and sister were also studying there and I used to cook for them,” he said.

Now a chef of 30 years with a family of his own – he has five grown-up daughters – Abdul retains strong links with Bangladeshi culture and ensures there are Bangladeshi dishes on his menus, alongside other popular Indian dishes.

Abdul is already an award-winner, having previously been named Midlands Chef of the Year by the Bangladesh Caterers’ Association.

He said: “I’m very pleased with the result at the Leicestershire Curry Awards and do love taking part in cooking and catering competitions.

“Our success in Uppingham, though, is down to the support of our loyal customers.”
