A16 access road for Spalding and Pinchbeck set to reopen in September as roundabout works continue
A major roadwork scheme, which has caused the closure of a busy access to the A16, is on course to finish at the start of next month.
Highways chiefs have confirmed that the current set of Greencell roundabout works should end at some point during the week beginning September 2.
The exact end date is subject to weather conditions — and the original estimate was for the project to take eight weeks.
Motorists have had to cope with the closure of the road between the A16 and the West Marsh Road roundabout since July 15 while the work is carried out. The route is well used by lorries accessing the Wardentree Lane industrial estate.
The official diversion has taken traffic through Surfleet and Pinchbeck — with lorries also reported in greater numbers along West Elloe Avenue as a knock-on effect.
The project is part of a planned upgrade to the Greencell and Springfields/McDonalds A16 roundabouts in a bid to improve traffic flows around Spalding.
The project has involved utility works, as well as building additional entry and exit lanes onto the new roundabout. Workers are also laying a new road surface and installing new signage and street lighting columns.
