South Holland District Council refuses planning permission for Franklin Bros Limited asphalt plant in Sutton Bridge

An unpopular development planned for a village has been given the thumbs down — amid concerns over the smell and noise.

Franklin Bros Limited had made an application to South Holland District Council (SHDC) to build a semi-mobile asphalt mixing plant at Greenworld Park, Sutton Bridge — but planning permission has now been refused.

The application received 427 objections from concerned residents about the impact on health.

A decision notice from the council read: “The proposed development is considered to be inappropriate to the local area and neighbouring land uses, is an unacceptable use of land due to odour and noise which adversely affects character and should be refused planning permission.”

Worried residents had shown up to voice concerns about the plans at a public meeting in the Curlew Centre with MP Sir John Hayes back in July.

They voiced a string of concerns about the site, which was planned next to the A17 and not far from streets such as Railway Lane North and Kenzie Drive.

Business owner Pippa Burrows, who runs Pippa’s Pantry, said: “I am so happy that it’s been refused.

“It was going to cause a lot of huge issues for the whole of Sutton Bridge.”
