Runners from the LincsOnline area pull in the pounds for charity at London Marathon
London Marathon runners have raised thousands of pounds for their collective good causes.
Temperatures in the 20s meant it was a hot 26.2 miles, yet Geoff Burgoin from Wilsthorpe, near Stamford, took it in his stride.
He last ran the London Marathon 33 years ago, but having turned 80 decided to give it another bash, this time for Cancer Research UK. He has raised more than £2,800, having crossed the finish in a highly respectable 6hr 14mins, 29,805th, out of 56,640 finishers and eighth in his category.
Morag Roberts, 81, who lives in Stamford, recognised Geoff among all those faces, having read our article about him. She was running for Blood Cancer UK, having been diagnosed two years ago, and managed to train around her regular chemotherapy. Thanks to a fundraising quiz and donations she has raised £6,484 and clocked a finishing time of 7hrs 20.
Fellow Stamfordian Ed Fancourt, a town councillor, raised £2,840 for Cats Protection, completing the marathon in 3hrs 32.
Nurse Jenna Holliday lives in Stamford and raised £1,547 for the Youth Hostels Association, finishing in 5hrs 16.
John Gilligan, head of Arthur Mellows Village College in Glinton, raised nearly £9,000 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall in a time of 4hr 32. He was their biggest fundraiser.
Lucy Babbs raised £4,130 for the Matt Hampson Foundation. It was the former Stamford High School pupil’s first marathon, which she completed in 4hr 12.
Laura Coleman-Day from Witham St Hughs wore her wedding dress at the race and raised £17,249 for the Anthony Nolan charity, in memory of her husband. Her finishing time was 5hrs 52.
Eden Willmott of Gedney Drove End ran a blistering time of 3hrs 32 and raised more than £2,300 for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Holbeach butcher Ben Tindale has raised £1,767 so far for Alzheimer’s Research UK and finished in 5hrs 44.
Cancer survivor Clare Ford, from Grantham, raised about £1,200 for Lymphoma Action and finished in 4hr 48.
Jordan Meads and Beth Pattern from Grantham ran together wearing clogs to raise more than £1,500 for The Carers’ Centre Leicestershire and Rutland. Their finishing time was 7hrs 11.
Strands of Spalding owner Sharon Tear ran the marathon in 6hrs for the Spalding and Holbeach fundraising branch of MacMillan Cancer Support, raising £3,241.
Ruth Treharne from Sleaford raised more than £2,200 for Support Dogs after the charity trained a dog for her autistic and non-verbal nephew Sebastian ‘Sebby’ Dean, 6, from Grantham. Her time was 4hrs 48.
Carly Wilkinson from Spalding raised £2,560 so far for the Lighthouse Project Spalding.
